I love it when the fall season arrives

Summer is great for relaxing, enjoying the warm weather and getting a decent tan, but sometimes it can be a little difficult to find sports stories.

With the new school year just over a week, that problem is solved. A host of awesome sports from Bainbridge High School and Grace Christian Academy gives us more than enough events, features and games to deliver everything you need to know about Bainbridge sports

Cross-country will once again see strong Bearcats and Lady Cats teams. The boys sprinted their way to a Region Championship last season, led by rising senior Poncherella Leonard with an individual region title in a time of 16:24. The Lady Cats will see quick runners, as always. I fully expect great news to come from this team throughout the 2016 season.

The Lady Cats softball team had a solid 10-14 season last year under new head coach Christopher Bryant. Much of the team will be returning this year for another shot in a brand new region. Bryant said he looks forward to his players doing well and building off of last year. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lady Cats can put together, and hopefully we’ll be reporting on a successful post-season come October.

The Bearcat football team roared onto the scene last season and quickly became a topic of discussion throughout the Region and the state. By the time Bainbridge was 10-0 with a Region Championship under their belt, all of Georgia seemed to be looking down in our corner of the state. The team reached the Final Four and lost, but afterward coach Jeff Littleton announced “Bainbridge football is back, and it’s here to stay.” That should get your blood pumping. The first game is against Lee County on Aug. 26, and I don’t think this community will have any trouble filling the seats at Centennial Field.

Volleyball at GCA is always a great sport to cover. The team might have lost 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Georgia Independent Schools State Tournament last season, but plenty of younger players got valuable experience that will come in handy this season.

Like I said, lots of sports going on, and I’m excited to watch our teams make big achievements this season.
