A third arrest has been made by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the armed robbery that occurred at Mr. Pips on Sunday July 3. Mincey Sanders, 17, was arrested late Monday afternoon and charged with armed robbery.

Initially Tevin Gaines, 22, and Brian Henry, 29, were arrested in connection with the robbery.

“We got to investigating it, we found that Tevin went in the store with a guy we really didn’t know who we was,” DCSO investigator Jason Williams said. “I got into looking into a bunch of stuff and I found out this guy that lives with [Henry], Mincey, fit the description.”

DCSO investigators originally though that Henry and Gaines had entered Mr. Pips to perform the robbery, but Henry did not match the build of the second suspect in the video.

“Tevin matches up perfectly,” Williams said. “The other one didn’t from looking at the video. There’s no way. Where the problem was, we got witnesses that put them together before the robbery and right after the robbery.”

Sanders was a person of interest and with the help of Decatur County School System officers they were able to identify him as the second suspect in the video.

“He’s built where he’s going to stick out anywhere he goes,” Williams said. “We already had him has a suspect so they were able to say ‘yeah that’s Mincey. I can tell you from the way he walks and the way he looks. That’s him.’”

DCSO officers now believe that Sanders and Gaines entered Mr. Pips while Henry waited in the car.

“What we think happened was, Tevin and Brian basically talked Mincey into doing something gang related,” Williams said. “I think [Sanders] and Tevin went in the store and I think Brian stayed in the car to make sure everything went ok and was kind of like the lookout.”

No currency was recovered following the arrests, but a gun was taken into evidence by DCSO.

“We recovered a firearm that’s connected to the armed robbery of Mr. Pips on Brian Henry,” Williams said.

Gaines was charged with two felony counts of armed robbery, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of aggravated assault.

Henry is charged with one count of armed robbery and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
