Bainbridge Farmers’ Market to hold recipes contest Saturday

Published 6:01 pm Tuesday, June 7, 2016

Showcase your kitchen culinary creativity at the Bainbridge Farmers’ Market Recipe contest this Saturday, June 11. Take an old family favorite and put a new spin on it, or make a whole new creation. There are three categories of competition: tomatoes, corn and peaches — all three products in abundance in southwest Georgia now.

Bring your entries for a recipe contest between 10 and 10:30 a.m. to the pavilion of the Farmers Market at 300 N. Broad Street.

The featured ingredient must be the main ingredient of the side dish or dessert. It must be made from fresh produce. The recipe must be presented along with the dish entry. Each dish should serve 6-8 people and only one dish per category, per person will be accepted.

Three judges, Joy Burrell, Lori Shiver and Ramsay Simmons, will judge the entries according to taste, creativity and originality, texture, use of featured ingredient and appearance.

Winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m. Each winner will receive $25 of market bucks for redemption at the Farmers Market. Winning recipes will be featured on the Bainbridge Farmers Market website, social media and in a future market cookbook.

Farmers’ Market Marketing Manager Rose Geiger said their goal is to inspire people to actually cook and eat all this fresh food grown in our area. “This is the first recipe competition. We plan to repeat the competition each season with different categories and will collect all the good recipes for a future cookbook, while featuring the winners,“ she added.

The Farmers Market will continue each Saturday through June 25 and will resume again in October.
