Bearcat and Lady Cat track teams hold awards banquet

The Bearcats and coach Lady Cats were honored for their strong track seasons during Tuesday night’s annual Bainbridge High School track awards banquet.
Bearcats awards went to Zyon McGee as the top field events performer, Poncherella Leonard as the top distance runner, Danbrell Harris as the most improved performer, Jaylyn Scott as the coaches award winner and Iran Brown as the academic award winner.
At the state track meet Leonard finished seventh in the 1600 meter and the 3200. Scott finished third in the state in the 300 hurdles and Harris finished third in the state in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles.
Lady Cats’ awards went to Uriyah Davis as the top distance runner, Emilee Poppell as the academic award winner, Tyaisha Gant as the most improved performer, and Makayla Cooper as the coaches award winner.
Bearcat seniors were Jarvis Freeman for the 400-meter run, the 4×100 relay, and the 4×400 relay, Harris for the 110 hurdles, the 300 hurdles, and the 4×400 relay and William Johnson for the 4×100 relay and the 4×400 relay.
Also receiving senior plaques were Curtis Keaton for the 4×400 meter relay, Elijah Tyler for the 100, the 200 and the 4×100 relay, Lorenzo Mitchell for the 400, the 4×100 meter relay and the 4×400 meter relay, Charles Hightower received senior plaques for the shot-put and the discus.
Amari Smith, who ran the 400 and 4×400 relay and also competed in the triple jump, was the lone senior on the Lady Cat track team.
