Charles M. Gilson, 81, of Hernado, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Veterans Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. He was married to Mary Sue Brock Gilson formerly of Bainbridge Ga. who preceded him in death in 2014.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Gilson will be held Sunday, May 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Brock Cemetery Bainbridge, Ga., Rev. Greg Fenn officiating, and will have full military honors.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Oak Grove Christian Church Social Hall, Andrew Avery Road, Vada, Ga..

Mr. Gilson was born July 25, 1934 in Carson, Washington to the late Johnny and Viola Gilson of Carson, Washington. Mr. Gilson retired from the United States Army with 21 years of service.  Within those 21 years he served two tours of duty in Viet Nam.

Survivors include: two brothers, Bob Gilson (Sandy) of Obrien, Oregon and John Gilson (Ferrell) of Olympia, Washington; a step-daughter Ms. Debbie Holstine of Hernando, Miss.; a step-son Roger Willis of Atlanta, Ga.; seven step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one brother in law, Bernie Hinzman of Washington State; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Mrs. Marie Williams (Frank) of Vada, Mrs. Rosa Strickland (Glenn) of Tallahassee, Fla. and a brother-in-law and his wife, Lavon Brock (Daphene) of Baconton, Ga..

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Lee Ann Hinzman; and a step-son Danny Brock.
