Student Art Show demonstrates growing pool of young artists

Art students from all levels of the Decatur County Schools currently have an exhibit at the Firehouse Arts Center. It opened on Sunday, May 1 with a reception and will be open to the public this week on Thursday and Friday from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Sunday, May 8 from 1 to 3 p.m., art works will be available for pickup by the students and by any who may have purchased them.

High School Winners were: Paint: (1) Angel Groves, (2) Elizabeth Kirkland, (3) Taylor Love, Hon. Mention, Ariel Carter; Drawing: (1) Daniel Victor, (2) Elizabeth Kirkland, (3) Annabelle Smith, Hon. Men. Nicholas Allen; Mixed Media: (1) Ariel Carter, (2) Elizabeth Kirkland, (3) Yasmin Guzman, Hon. Mention, Walt Burrell; Printmaking: (1) Ariel Carter, (2) Daniel Victor, (3) Elizabeth Kirkland, Hon. Men. Janisha Perkins; Ceramics: (1) Taylor Love, (2) Mary Alice Long, (3) Aubree Hicks, Hon. Men. Iris Malone. Overall Best in Show went to Angel Groves.

Middle School Winners in Drawing: (1) Bethany Rentz, (2) Zachary Turner, (3) Aiden Sasser-Mapped, Hon. Mention, Shelbi Reynolds; Painting, (1) Avery Andrews(2) Jaylyn Jackson, (3) Corbin Austin, Hon. Men. Anahay Ramos; Mixed Media: (1) Heaven Sizemore, (2) Kaylynn Culverson, (3) Wilmar Vasquez, H.M. Lawson Singleton; Overall Best in Show went to 8th grader Bethany Rentz for her portrait of actor, Jensen Ackles.

Elementary awards were presented in the following categories: Kindergarten, 1st place, Olivia Harrell, 2nd, Henry Lee, third, Molly James Humphrey and Honorable Mention went to Posey Cleveland. First grade: (1) Cotton Dodson, (2) Banks Tuten, (3) Karsten Boatwright and Hon. Mention to Tyreke Washington. Second Grade: (1) Caleb McDuffie, (2) Elizabeth Adams, (3) Savannah Haire, Hon. Mention Riggs Rentz.

Third Grade: (1) Owen Earnest, (2) Anilya Scott, (3) Kenton Jordan, Hon. Men. Megan Onelas. Fourth Grade: (1) Shelby Vickers, (2) Anna Bella Adams, (3) Noahlee Mobley, Hon. Mention, Linda Ambrocio. Overall Best in Show for the Elementary Division went to Shelby Vickers a student at Grace Christian Academy.
