The Bainbridge Bearcat and Lady Bearcat Middle School soccer seasons came to a close Wednesday in Thomasville with the boys’ team winning 3-0 and the girls coming up on the short end of a 6-1 score.

Joe Emmons, Andru Matthews and Cesar Chaguilla each scored goals in the boys’ contest while Jamaya Brinson scored the lone goal in the girls’ contest.

In the girls’ contest Thomasville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before Brinson shot one in on a breakaway just before the half to tie the game. Seven minutes into the second half, Thomasville broke the tie with a shot from eight yards away to go up 2-1 and take the lead for good. The Lady Bulldogs scored four goals late in the contest to come away with the victory.

The girls’ team was overall an inexperienced team, but showed a lot of heart and effort throughout the season, constantly working to get better.

The experienced players such as Taylor Emmons, Sandy Baker, McKenna Stegall, and Brinson did a good job leading the team.

In the boys’ contest, Bainbridge jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead with goals by Matthews and Chaguilla

Emmons knocked in his second goal of the game in the second half in route to the victory in a hard played game controlled primarily by the Bearcats.

The boys’ soccer team had a successful season and developed as a solid unit as the season developed. They rebounded from two early losses to Cairo, by winning their last four against Thomas County and Thomasville to finish with a 4-2 overall record on the season.

In their victories they defeated Thomas County Middle School 4-1 and 2-0, and then finished the season by defeating Thomasville’ McIntyre Park 5-0 in Bainbridge and 3-0 in Thomasville.
