Bearcats extend win streak to four games

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats jumped out to an early lead on Americus-Sumter and captured a 13-2 victory on Friday.

With 11 runs in the first three innings, the Bearcats (13-3, 8-2) left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

A two-run double by Dustin Hodge, a groundout by Clark Wiggins, and a passed ball during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Bearcats.

Hodge racked up four RBIs on three hits in the game.

Lawson Lane got the win for on the mound. He allowed two runs over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered three hits.

Cayden McQuaig shut down Americus-Sumter in relief as he held Americus-Sumter hitless over the final 1 2/3 innings. He allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.

The Bearcats built upon their lead with seven runs in the third. The inning got off to a hot start when Will Kelley singled, bringing home Keith Lyle. That was followed up by Russell Wheeler’s triple, plating Hodge, Will Kelley and Conner Strickland.

The Bearcats continued their hot play and stretched their win streak to four games as seven-run explosion in the first inning carried the Bearcats to a 12-0 win in five innings over Albany on Monday.

The Bearcats scored their seven first inning runs thanks in large part to five Indian errors in the inning.

Preston Strickland threw a complete game in the mercy rule shortened game. He struck out seven Indian batters in five innings and allowed only one hit.

The Bearcats traveled to Cairo last night for an important region game.
