Family Connections raised well over $3,000 with their People’s Choice Competition at River Towns Days, according to Coordinator Ronnie Burke.
Of the 95 teams competing in the Flames on the Flint BBQ Cook Off, 36 participated in the People’s Choice.
First place went to Pork Rinds out of Tallahassee, and second place went to Pirates of Porkscents, who also designed all the awards for Flames on the Flint.
“It went very well. We sold out of everything,” Burke said. “They really had a lot of fun. A lot of people saw people walking around with egg crates.”
According to Chairman Scott Ewing, they sold out of egg crates around 1:30 p.m.
The money that was raised will be used to support Family Connections’ Backpack program which provides meals to hungry children, the Darkness to Light program which fights sexual abuse and to host literacy programs.
The contest was held with support from Dixie Dandy and Food Giant who donated Boston Butts and egg crates.
