As part of Bainbridge State College’s Third Annual Carter Arts & Lecture Series, the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 17, at the Charles H Kirbo Regional Center.

The doors to the auditorium will open at 6 p.m. As always the Carter Arts & Lecture Series events are free and open to the public. Tickets are not required for entry.

The Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra (GTSO), under the direction of Professor Chaowen Ting, maintains a membership of approximately 60-80 players. As there is no music major program at Georgia Tech, eighty percent of the musicians are engineering majors while Computer Science is the second largest major for GTSO members. The Orchestra performs 4-6 concerts within an academic year.

Concerts and repertoire expose participants to a variety of orchestral literature from the Classical through Contemporary periods, including operatic, popular and film music. Participation in the Orchestra broadens students’ skills and expertise in performing, understanding and appreciation of music.

On Thursday, March 17, at 7 p.m., the student-driven orchestra will perform a concert entitled, “Romance,” which features compositions by classical composers such as Edward Elgar, Johannes Brahms and Richard Wagner.

The BSC Carter Arts & Lecture Series was founded in 2013, by a group of faculty and staff who wished to bring a diverse educational experience to students and the community.
