Junior midfielder Mallory West propelled the Lady Bearcats to victory with her goal in the 37th minute against the Cook County Lady Hornets Friday night at Centennial field. West’s goal was the only score in the game for either team as the Lady Bearcats (4-4, 3-1) held on for 1-0 region victory over the Lady Hornets.

The game winning score was set up when Bainbridge senior utility player Derrical Williams after she intercepted a Lady Hornet goal kick. Williams then passed to West who sent the ball forward to junior midfielder Cara Jones who returned a pass back to West. She took the pass and shot and scored from the center of the Cook County six-yard box.

“I thought we showed great determination versus Cook and the team had to work hard for the win as the Lady Hornets brought a good effort and hustle,” Lady Bearcats Head Coach Chip Arial said. “I thought as the game wore on we got into a better flow.”

On Saturday the Lady Bearcats travelled to Ozark, Alabama to battle the Carroll High School Lady Eagles, but came up on the short end of a 3-0 score. The Lady Eagles scored two goals in the first half and one in the second.

“On Saturday we made a few technical errors against a good team and they finished against us with goals,” Arial said. “Hopefully we can learn from that and continue to progress forward.”

The Bainbridge High School boys’ varsity Soccer also defeated Cook County on Friday as they scored multiple goals off of corner kicks in a 3-0 victory.

Bainbridge (3-3-1, 3-1) took a 1-0 halftime lead due to the first of three corner kick plays resulting in goals. Junior defender Nathaniel Lambert sent in a corner kick in the 35th minute towards the center of the goal. Freshman forward Angel Munoz shielded the goalkeeper from making a play on the ball and senior Midfielder Bennett Enfinger finished the pass off with a scoring shot on goal from six yards out.

In the 60th minute, senior forward Jesus Contreras lofted a corner kick to the six-yard box that junior midfielder Misael Rodriguez headed toward the far post. The Cook County Goalkeeper momentarily saved the shot, but an alert Rodriguez followed his deflection with a shot at close range for the score to give Bainbridge a 2-0 lead.

The final goal came in the 77th minute as Lambert sent in a corner kick from the left side, that landed in front of a Hornet defender, who tried to clear from his goal area, but miss-hit the ball causing it to instead go into his own goal.

Both teams travel to Crisp County on Friday.
