The driver of a log truck was transported via helicopter to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after overturning on Newton Road Monday around 1 p.m.

“He is in critical condition at this time,” State Trooper Robert Snyder said on scene Monday.

The truck, from Cairo, was heading southbound on Newton Road and hit a curve too fast near Pine Hill Road.

According to witness statements from another truck driver, the truck rocked up on its right side through the curve with all the weight bearing on that side. The right front tire gave way, causing the rim to bite down into the asphalt and swing the truck across the road, sending its load tumbling off the trailer.

Georgia State Patrol and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office worked to clear the scene. Traffic was halted on Newton Road while the truck and logs were cleared.
