Coach Kelvin Cochran’s Bainbridge High School Lady posted a pair of victories over the weekend to improve their overall record to 21-1 and their Region 1-AAAA record to 9-0.
On Friday, they defeated the Worth County High School Lady Rams 63-32 in Sylvester and on Saturday they defeated the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets 49-44 at home.
The Lady Cats will travel to Americus Friday to play the Americus-Sumter High School Panthers, who is also 9-1 in Region 1-AAAA play. The winner of the game will host the Region 1-AAAA Tournament.
Nadia Marshall led the way for the Lady Cats Friday night against the Lady Rams with a game-high 17 points. Tatiana Roseborough was also in double figures with 10. Alexis Russ and Tyra Smart each scored 8.
Saturday night against Central, the Lady Cats took a 10-6 first quarter lead when Nadia Marshall hit a jumper from the right baseline. The lady Yellow Jackets then went on a 4-0 run to pull even 10-10 at the end of the quarter.
The Lady Cats went up 14-10 when Tiarra King hit a layup off the right glass with 6:02 left in the second quarter. They were out front 22-16 at halftime and 34-25 after three quarters.
Coach Cochran said he thought his team played well in both games but were somewhat limited against Thomas County Central because of foul trouble.
“Nadia Marshall and Alexis Russ got in foul trouble early against Thomas County Central and we had to go deep into our bench,” Cochran said. “To our credit, we were able to hold on and pullout t he victory. Now our whole focus is getting ready for Americus-Sumter.”
