There were serving sized packages of cookies, cakes and pies of all shapes and sizes for sale in the Hutto Middle School lunchroom Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the proceeds of which will go to the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society.
It was a charity project of the Chorus Department at Hutto. Choral Director Laura Bowen said of the 215 students in the chorus, eight are elected as officers or directors. They came up with the idea of raising money for the Humane Society and presented it to the body of the chorus who immediately jumped on board, according to Bowen.
The sale on Wednesday was conducted by the 5th graders, while Thursday’s sale was overseen by the 6th grade members.
As of Thursday afternoon, the money was still being counted, but Bowen said over 800 items were sold at a cost of 50 cents each. She anticipated there would be a good $500 to donate to the shelter for whatever need or purpose they designate.
Beth Eck, shelter director, said she really appreciated all the students and their parents who did the hard work of baking or buying the tasty treats.
