Climax City Council swears in new members

The Climax City council began the New Year on Monday night January 11 with new Councilman Joseph Kelly and incumbent Councilwoman Vanessa Martin taking the oath of office.

New Councilman Joseph Kelly will fill the seat vacated by Councilman Robert Jones, and Councilwoman Vanessa Martin, incumbent, returns for another term.

The council also began the New Year under New Business by receiving the resignation of City Clerk Karen Toole. Clerk Toole did not give a reason for her resignation.

Paul Fryer was approved as city Attorney for 2016, and Bruce Mann was approved as auditor.

John Presilla gave the Police report stating that he was still working with the gentleman that has the washing repair business on the corner of Main and Broad Streets. The old washing machines cannot be left as they are an eye sore to the city. John said the owner of the business was working on the situation.

Councilmember Sandra Thomas reported that the concrete slab was in at the little park. She said the committee would begin researching the cover, as the goal is to have a covered picnic area.

Mayor Charles Hadsock reported that the street resurfacing project for 2015 was finally finished.

On the appointments to the 2016 Southwest Georgia Regional Commission the council voted to follow whatever Bainbridge decides. The council also voted to appoint the Georgia Municipal Association President as the city’s voting proxy to elect a new GMA 3rd Vice President.

A motion carried unanimously for Councilwoman Sandra Thomas to serve as Major Pro-Tem for this term.

A motion and second carried to close the regular meeting and enter into executive session for personnel and policy matters. Upon returning to the open meeting Major Hadsock announced that no decisions were made and no actions were taken in the executive session.

A motion and second carried to pay outstanding bills and to adjourn.
