Two new members, Melanie Posey and Nichole Buchanan, were appointed to the Firehouse Arts Center Board during the annual meeting that preceded the Member Art Show reception on Thursday night. Recognition was also given to board members Vicki Bailey, Paula Grollman, Martha Henderson and Claritha Jacobs, who rotated off the board. Stephanie Jones continues to serve as president.

The Firehouse Courtyard was lit with two original Basil Lucas creations in the style of Japanese lanterns. He likes to do abstract paintings and has mounted them on a frame in which he has placed a light.

A painting, ”Palmer’s View,” by Rebecca Long Cole, attracted much attention. Inspiration for the painting came to Cole as the result of an incident that occurred on a fishing trip. She was stung in the head by a huge yellow jacket that had swarmed from a disturbed nest. She did the painting while a student when she was told to paint something larger than life.

Havana art teacher, D. Arthur McBride, also has a display in the exhibit. She is well known for her portrait paintings. Many of the Bainbridge area artists who have studied with her, give her credit for their artistic development.

The exhibit continues on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through January 24.
