Donald Amos “Donnie” Smith, 73, of Bascom, Fla. died Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
Donnie was a native and lifelong resident of Bascom. He attended Malone High School and retired as a sergeant from Florida Department of Corrections. He enjoyed his cows and anything that was green and growing. Donnie loved supporting the FFA, going to the AG Expo in Moultrie, GA, and all kinds of auctions.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Lee Ann Ewing Smith and his parents, Jewell Weston and William Paul Smith.
He is survived by two sons, Donnie Smith, Jr. and wife, Joni of Jacksonville, Ian Childers of Orlando; two daughters, Bonita Smith Heartsill and husband, Mike of Montgomery, Ala., Michelle Miller and husband, Scott of Bainbridge, Ga.; one brother, Walter Paul Smith and wife, Thelma of New Orleans, La.; seven grandchildren, Taylor and Jessica Smith, Weston and Will Heartsill, Caitlin and Brent Miller, Forest Childers; Sister-in-Law, Lisa Hertensen and husband, Bob; two nephews, Willie Hertensen and Timothy Smith and one niece, Lauren Glorioso.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, in the family cemetery at 5041 Liberty Hill Rd. Bascom, with Rev. Almer Williams officiating. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel will be directing.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel in Marianna, Fla.
