Bainbridge resident Kyle Duke, 43, was killed Monday morning in a three-car accident on Interstate 10 near Midway, Florida.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Duke was traveling west on Interstate 10 in the outside westbound lane approaching exit 192 at 3:26 a.m. when his GMC truck was hit.
Cal Perry Gardiner Crombi, 20, of Tallahassee, was driving a Toyota Camry and traveling east on Interstate 10 (state Road 8) in the westbound lanes approaching exit 196 when he crossed into the direct path of Duke and hit him head on.
According to FHP, Duke “was unable take any evasive actions to avoid a collision.” Following the initial collision Duke’s truck was overturned on its roof. His car was then hit a second time by a Chevy Cruz driven by Daniel Nutt.
Duke suffered fatal injuries in the accident. Crombie was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in critical condition and Nutt was treated at TMH for minor injuries. Robert Johnson, Jr., who was a passenger in the Chevy Cruz, was treated for minor injuries, but not transported to the hospital.
According to James Shaw of FHP, alcohol was not a contributing factor to the accident. Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by Gadsden County Sheriff Department, Midway Police Department, Midway and Quincy Fire Departments and the Department of Transportation.
