A Bainbridge man fell out of his boat and was hit by the propeller Tuesday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. on the Flint River

Calvin Brownhill was riding in a boat with Daniel Klages around the Chamber of Commerce Building when they hit a bump.

Brownhill fell out of the boat. Before Klages was able to turn off the propeller, it hit Brownhill.

Witnesses called 911 and Bainbridge Public Safety and EMS responded. Charlie Bowles, president of First Port City Bank, was leaving the boat basin with his boat when officers asked to use it to reach Brownhill on the opposite shore.

Bowles and several officers hurried to where Brownhill and Klages were on the side of the river opposite the Chamber building. Klages said while waiting for help, he fashioned a tourniquet for Brownhill to slow the bleeding.

Brownhill suffered severe lacerations to his left arm, according to BPS Deputy Director Frank Green. He was immediately sent via ambulance to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Klages is a linebackers coach for the Bainbridge Bearcats.
