Accident results in fatality at Vada Road intersection

A three-vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality occurred Sunday at 12:55 p.m. at the intersection of Vada Road and Whigham Dairy Road.

A Ford Ranger, driven by Dimas Baca-Huerta, 78, of Climax, was traveling west on Vada Road. Baca-Huerta attempted to make a left turn onto Whigham Dairy Road and pulled in front of a Kenworth cotton module.

The Ford rotated clockwise from the collision and struck the left side of a Jeep Cherokee that was following the cotton module. Baca-Huerta was transferred to Archbold Hospital in Thomasville where he later died from fatal injuries.

The Jeep’s driver, Ashley Nicole Laye, 29, of Bainbridge, suffered non-fatal injuries and was immediately treated at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital. In the vehicle with Laye were two children wearing child restraints who were uninjured, according to Cpl. M.A. Storey at Georgia State Patrol.

The driver of the cotton module, Warren Aaron Martinez, 56, was not injured.
