More details surrounding the officer-involved shooting last week have surfaced, including a report that Evan Lashley stole a shotgun from a business on Faceville Highway before his confrontation with a Decatur County deputy.
The deputy shot Lashley, 25, after the DCSO responded to a call of a suicidal subject on Azalea Circle in South Decatur County.
According to the incident report, a complainant told deputies that his daughter, also Lashley’s girlfriend, that Lashley wanted her to come to his land. The complainant was worried his daughter would be harmed.
The report reads that Lashley had attempted suicide around 6 p.m. the previous evening.
When deputies arrived at Azalea Circle, they spent 45 minutes trying to negotiate with Lashley. When Lashley pulled the stolen shotgun into view, the DCSO deputy fired at him.
Several more minutes of negotiation later and Lashley finally surrendered.
He was immediately transferred to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with no major injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is conducting an investigation of body camera footage and interviewing witnesses.
Decatur County Sheriff Wiley Griffin said last week he was proud of the way his deputy handled the situation.
