Softball drops to Cairo

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team dropped a tight 8-6 Region 1AAAA decision to the Cairo High School Syrupmaids Tuesday in Cairo.
The Lady Cats, who are 4-4 in Region 1AAA play, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. A single by left fielder Taylor Swanner and a double by right fielder Mabry Grace Briggs produced the first run. Catcher Mckynleigh Harrell singled home Broggs with the second run.
The Syrupmaids rallied for six in the bottom of the third to go up 6-2. The Lady Cats bounced back with two more in the bottom of the fourth to increase their advantage to 8-2.
The Lady Cats bounced back with two run rallies in the fifth and sixth innings. The fifth inning runs were scored by center fielder Haley Thompson and third baseman Bailey Rayfield.
The Lady Cats are preparing for the Region 1AAAA Tournament, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, October 6, 7 and 8 in Albany. It will be a double elimination tournament, hosted by the Albany High School Lady Indians.
“We are working hard to get ready for the Region 1AAAA Tournament,” Lady Cats coach Chris Bryant said. “It will determine who advances to the next level of playoffs.”
