The Bainbridge Bearcats seventh grade team held the Washington Middle School Tigers to just 6 points Thursday in a 14-6 win at Centennial Field.
Stingy defenses on both sides kept either team from running away with the score and demanded focus from the seventh grade players.
Fullback Jvon Lee scored first for Bainbridge was a 3-yard run. Kendal Jackson set the score up with a 33-yard kick off return, followed by Reshad Broadnax inching the ball closer to the goal line with a 17-yard run. Lee scored two plays later, followed by Broadnax’s 2-point conversion run to move the score to 8-0.
The Tigers’ tailback sprinted into the end zone on the next series with a 40-yard run. The 2-point conversion play, a tight end reverse, was tackled behind the line of scrimmage by Broadnax.
Bainbridge cemented their win with 14 seconds left in the game. Lee ran for 3-yards into the end zone, followed by a failed 2-point conversion by Broadnax to make the score 14-6.
The seventh grade Bearcat improved their record to 3-0 with the win.
The team’s next game is Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Centennial Field against Thomas County Central Middle School.
