Lady Cougars volleyball squad divides pair of matches this week

Coach Erwin Harrell’s Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars volleyball team divided two games this week to improve their overall record to 8-2 and their Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 2 record to 4-1.

In a Region 2 match on Tuesday, they dropped a tight 3-2 match to Valdosta’s Valwood School Lady Valiants at Perry Memorial Gymnasium and on Thursday they defeated the Aucilla Christian Academy Lady Warriors in Monticello Florida.

In the match with the Lady Valiants the Lady Cougars won the first set 25-21, w on the second set 25-23, lost the third set 15-25, lost the fourth set 17-25 and lost the tie breaker 11-15.

Top performers against the Valiants included Kelsey Harrell with 14 kills, Kaitlyn Holcombe with 6 kills and Abigail Mills with 5 kills. Sarah Castoro made 15out of 16 serves for a 94 percentage, Lindsey Duke made 16 of 17 serves for a 94 percentage and Kelsey Harrell made 13 out of 14 serves for a 93 percentage.

Also turning in top dig performances were Sarah Castoro who had 17 digs and Kelsey Harrell who had 13 digs.

In Thursday’s win over the Lady Warriors, the Lady Cougars won 3-0. They won the first set 25-12, won the second set 25-13 and won the third set 25-17. Statistical leaders included Kelsey Harrell and Kaitlyn Holcombe who had 10 kills apiece and Sarah Castoro who had 6 digs. Sarah Castoro converted 15 of 15 serves for 100 percent and Abigail Mills had 11 of 12 serves for 91 percent.

“It was great to get a win Thursday after the tough loss Tuesday,” coach Harrell said. “The ladies came out and played sharp.”

The Lady Cougars returned to action Friday when they took on Community Christian School in Tallahassee.
