Eighth grade Bearcat defense holds back Tigers for 20-18 win

The Bainbridge Bearcat eighth grade team pulled off a 20-18 win against the Washington Middle School Tigers of Cairo Thursday.
The eighth grade team moves to 3-0 under coach Heith Maxwell.
Quarterback Sam Boutwell scored all three of the Bearcats’ touchdowns.
Bainbridge put points on the board first with a 16-yard run from Boutwell. The 2-point conversion run from the quarterback was unsuccessful.
Washington quickly responded in the first quarter with a 1-yard run by the quarterback. A failed 2-point conversion put the score at 6-6.
The Bearcats scored again the third quarter when Boutwell ran 8-yards for the end zone and topped it off with a 2-point conversion run by Artez Moore. Moore outran several Tiger defenders to the right pylon for the score.
Bainbridge’s final touchdown was with 30 seconds left in the game when Boutwell ran 6-yards to the end zone. Moore attempted another 2-point conversion run on a toss sweep play, but came up just a couple yards short.
With the score at 20-12 and just 15 seconds left on the clock, The Tigers completed a 56-yard touchdown pass, but failed on the 2-point conversion.
The eighth grade Bearcats return to action next Thursday, Sept. 24, against Thomas County Central at Centennial Field.
