Claudia Sue Wright Simmons, 103, of Dothan, Ala., formerly of Bainbridge, Ga. passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Oak City Cemetery with Rev. Tim Dean officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Mrs. Simmons was born February 23, 1912 in Butler Springs, Ala., the daughter of William Ransom Wright and Annie Emma Seals Wright. She married Henry James “Hank” Simmons and lived in Florence, Alabama. Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church. Known as “The Rock” of her family and “Granny” to many, she never had a bad day. Mrs. Simmons was independent, spunky, loved life and loved to laugh. She enjoyed the escapades of her grandchildren and left a lasting impression on everyone she met especially with her incredible country cooking.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Dennis Jones and his wife, Teresa, of Norlina, NC, Mike Jones and his wife, Pam, of Bainbridge, Sam Jones and his wife, Vontae, of Bainbridge, Deanna Skinner and her husband, Alan, of Dothan, 10 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Emma Jo Jones; her son-in-law, Dee Jones; and her siblings, Jule Wright and Louise Baulknight.
