Bearcats continue practice to build off last week’s win, prep for rival game at Cairo

The Bainbridge Bearcats are excited to continue into the second week of the season with a game at rival school Cairo, and are looking to build off of last week’s momentum for a win against the Syrupmakers.
Last Friday, Bainbridge beat Early County 42-13 at Centennial Field. The game was a demonstration of the Bearcats executing the game plan head coach Jeff Littleton and the rest of the coaching staff put in place.
“First half of that game was a lot of fun,” Littleton said. “Just to see the kid’s execute the game plan that we had—it’s rewarding for us as coaches. You don’t get too many games like that.”
This week against Cairo, Bainbridge will be fighting against a team they had a taste of in August at a scrimmage at Centennial Field. Littleton said the Syrupmakers offense and defense would be similar to what was seen there.
Led by quarterback John Michael Owens, the Cairo offense runs a one-back formation often, Littleton said. They throw the ball and run the ball often as well.
Defensively, senior defensive end Malik Taylor and middle linebacker Walter Grant control the line of scrimmage well. Littleton said he was pleased with the way the Bearcats overcame that style of defense against the Bobcats last week.
“Offensively, we were able to execute to what the defense was giving us,” Littleton said. “They were stacking a lot of people in the box and bringing a lot of blitzes, and we were picking them up and executing throwing the ball down the field and making the catch.”
Littleton said motivation takes care of itself building up to a game against a rival like the Syrupmaker.
“I don’t have to motivate them that much as far as playing Cairo, because it is Cairo,” Littleton said. “I told them that we want to make sure we are executing the game plan we have put in place. We feel like if we do that, everything else will take care of itself.”
Kick off is Friday at 7:30 p.m. at West Thomas Stadium.
