Nell Butler Miles, 87, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, August 24, 2015 at her residence.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Medley officiating, and will conclude at the church. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery. Richard Ivey, Bryan Davis, Michael Cundiff, Jason Andrews, Steven Smith, Mallie Kate Andrews, and Avery Andrews will serve as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com.
Nell was born October 28, 1927 in Byromville, Ga., the daughter of Willie Hill Butler and Lyda Mae Hall Butler. She was a high school graduate and the former owner of The Gift Shop, which was located in the Martin Theater Building. She was a decorator for Miles Insurance and Realty Co. for many years. She volunteered with the Decatur County Unit of the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross Gray Ladies, and the Bainbridge Decatur County Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Lydia Sunday School Class, and was a former Sunday School Teacher.
Survivors include her son, Larry Miles and his special friend, Glenna Thornton, of Bainbridge; her daughter, Diane M. Ivey and her husband, Dick, of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Jennifer Miles of Donalsonville, Valerie M. Davis and her husband, Bryan, of Bainbridge, Melissa M. Cundiff and her husband, Michael, of Bainbridge, Amy I. Andrews and her husband, Jason, of Bainbridge, Mary Beth I. Smith and her husband, Steven, of Vestavia Hills, Ala., and Richard Ivey of Bainbridge; her great-grandchildren, Logan Davis, Jackson Davis, Miles Cundiff, Lane Cundiff, Raylee Cundiff, Mallie Kate Andrews, Avery Andrews, Sutton Andrews, and Andrew Smith.
Nell was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Diane Miles; her daughter-in-law, Janice Boutwell Miles; her brothers, Willie Butler, Lewis Butler, Frank Butler, Roy Butler, and Joe Butler; and her sisters, Elizabeth “Sister” Butler, Sara B. Sanders, Marie B. Carr, and Christine B. Miles.
The Miles family dearly appreciates the loving care provided by her caregivers, Missy Williams, Florence Baker, Tammy Calhoun, Linda Johnson, Mittie Stubbs, Margie Smith, and Gentiva Hospice.
