Lady Cats find their groove in 16-0 shutout against Daugherty

Coach Chris Bryant’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team slugged its way to a three-inning 16-0 Region 1-AAAA victory over the visiting Daugherty High School Lady Trojans Monday at the Lady Cats Diamond.

The game was originally scheduled for last Thursday, but was rained out and rescheduled.

Monday’s win gave the Lady Cats a 1-0 region record and a 3-3 overall record. They returned to Region 1-AAAA action Tuesday when they took on the Worth County High School Lady Rams in Sylvester.

The Lady Cats scored all 16 runs in the first inning. Right fielder Mabry-Grace Briggs had an RBI single to start the rally and later stole home.

Taylor Swanner and an RBI triple by Briggs kept the inning alive.

Second baseman Mckynleigh Harrell singled, driving in Briggs, and first baseman Tori Sprenkle doubled, driving in Harrell. Catcher Morgan Cannon then doubled in Sprenkle, moved to third on a wild pitch and stole home.

The final three Lady Cats runs were driven in by an RBI double by center fielder Haley Thompson and triples by Summerlin and Thompson.

After the game, coach Bryant praised his team for taking command early and keeping the pressure on throughout the game.

“We got a lot of key hits and played strong defense throughout,” he said. “If we keep doing that good things will happen.”
