Two separate auto accidents happened Thursday afternoon within one block of each other and within minutes of each other. It resulted with traffic being blocked at Five Corners for roughly 30 minutes.
According to some of the eight Public Service units responding, the first accident occurred about 2:05 p.m. and involved a gold Pontiac driven by Yvette Green, who allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Scott and College Streets. Her vehicle was T-boned by a vehicle driven by Russell Boyd. Ms. Green was injured and taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. Mr. Boyd did not appear to be injured.
Before the first accident could be cleared, a second accident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m., one block away, at the corner of College and Fleming Streets, when a female driver in a black Kia heading west was struck by a pickup truck making a left turn onto Fleming Street, striking the Kia in the driver’s side front wheel panel. The driver of the Kia was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. Neither the female driver of the pickup, nor her male passenger appeared to be injured. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
