GCA soccer set to begin next week

Coach Brian Carnes’ Grace Christian Academy Cougars co-ed soccer team will open their season Aug. 24 and 25 in the Calvary Christian Academy East West Challenge Tournament in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
The Cougars will be in competition with seven other teams from throughout the Panhandle Christian Conference.
Their first match will be Aug. 24 against host Calvary Christian at 7 p.m. central standard time.
“We are really looking forward to our season getting started,” Carnes said. “Our players have been working hard in practice and have been looking forward to getting the season started.”
Returning Cougar players include senior Anders Austinson, senior Brad Spooner, senior Dakota Vickers, junior Austin Anderson and junior Nate Walton.
Carnes said he is very pleased with the way his team is progressing.
“Our practice sessions have been really good,” he said. “Everyone has been working hard and we are really looking forward to getting the season started.
“The players have been doing a particularly good job of hustling sand hustling sand executing fundamentals. With so many other Panhandle Christian Conference members in the tournament, we should get a good read on our upcoming conference opponents.”
The Cougars will play their home games at the Bill Reynolds Sports Park soccer field.
