Bearcat runner to soon begin college career in St. Louis

Bainbridge High School Bearcats top cross-country and track and field runner Chase Harris will be performing this season for the Maryville University Saints in St. Louis, Missouri, during the fall cross-country season and spring sports season in the coming school year.

Maryville is a Division II school that competes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. His cross-country coach Yvette Greene and his track coach Larry Cosby and Greg Waddell, who coached him in both sports, are all looking forward to his continuing to do well in both sports at the college level.

Greene described Harris as scholar-athlete, a team leader and a dedicated runner you can always count on to turn in strong efforts.

Cosby pointed out that Harris, son of Lee and Julie Harris, holds the high school record in the mile and two mile runs. He described him as an outstanding competitors and a true champion.

Following his signing with Maryville in November Harris expressed his appreciation to a lot of people who supported him during his track and cross-country career.

“So many people allowed me to have opportunities that I wouldn’t have been exposed to otherwise,” he said. “I would like to thank my family, my cross-country and track coaches and everyone else who helped me along the way.”

In 2013, Harris set the school records in the 1,600 meter run with a time of  30.38. He was on the Albany Herald’s All-Area boys cross-country team in 2012 and he set the school record in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9.3805
