William James Ammons, 83, of Bainbridge, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Archbold Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Bainbridge Church of God with Rev. Jamie Rivera officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. The men of Bainbridge Church of God will serve as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Bainbridge Church of God. Online visitors may sign the guest register at

Mr. Ammons was born September 23, 1931 in Ozark, Ala.. He retired as a machine operator with Englehard after more than 30 years. James was a longtime member of Bainbridge Church of God. Mr. Ammons loved the Lord first, with his family and the church a close second. His passion for fishing and his vegetable garden were known by everyone who counted him a friend. His big heart will be missed in this community.
Survivors include his sons, William J. Ammons and his wife, Tonia, of Claremont, NC and Jerry Ammons of Hickory, NC; his siblings, Robert Lawrence Ammons and his wife, Margie, of Quinton, Ala., Gladys Gray of Ozark, Ala., Lugenia Parker and her husband, Clifton, of Ozark, Bobbie Thomley of Wicksburg, Ala., and Bertha Lee Strickland and her husband, Luther, of Ozark; his grandchildren, Jennifer Miller, Casey Ammons and Sydnie Ammons; his three great-grandchildren; his three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Ammons and Lucille Smith Ammons Windham; his wife of 65 years, Grace E. Ammons; his grandson, Jarrod Weatherford; and his sister, Ollie Belle Carroll.
