Joy A. Lane, age 83, of Iron City, Ga. passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 at her residence.
A memorial service for Ms. Lane will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bainbridge, with Father Dave Hamm officiating. Her cremains will be buried at a later time in Arlington National Cemetery.
Ms. Lane was born in Brinson, Ga. on September 14, 1931 to Clay T. Lane and Lila Russell Lane. She graduated from Brinson School then St. Margaret’s Hospital School of Nursing and the Air Force School of Aviation Medicine (Flight Nurse Course). Ms. Lane served her country in the United States Air Force as a nurse from Sept. 15, 1957 through June 9, 1976. She retired under the rank of Lt. Colonel and moved to Seminole County in 1989. Ms. Lane was a member of the Society of Air Force Nurses, Inc. serving as the President of that organization from 1997-2001. She also received two medals of commendation while serving in the Air Force, one on October 14, 1969 and the other on March 6, 1972. Ms. Lane was a member of the Seminole County Garden Club, having served as its President.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a sister, Merle Lane Davis of Blakely, Ga., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ms. Lane was preceded in death by her parents, Clay T. Lane and Lila Russell Lane; three brothers, Clay T. Lane, Jr., Billy Lane (Douglas), and Dave B. Lane; and two sisters, Marijane Lane Spooner and Laura Lane Pearce.
