Rising junior Keith Lyle will be attending a showcase event next Tuesday with 59 other underclassmen from Georgia as part of the Top 100 Finals baseball event in Lawrenceville.
Lyle, the Bearcats’ starting shortstop, was qualified for the Top 100 event after a showcase in Valdosta in May. Next Tuesday, he will play with and against other underclassmen from Georgia, all while being scouted by top college programs like Georgia, Georgia Tech, Central Florida and South Carolina.
“It’s just an honor to be able to have the chance to do it, participate in it and do well in it, too,” Lyle said.
As a sophomore, Lyle had a .309 batting average against region opponents, hitting 13 RBIs. His fielding percentage was .850 at shortstop.
Lyle will be given a Top 100 Jersey to wear with his team, but will sport his Bainbridge Bearcats ball cap for scouts to note his high school.
Lyle’s parents, Keith Lyle, Sr., and Tami, said they were proud of what Lyle has accomplished.
“It’s been amazing to watch,” Keith, Sr., said. “I’m proud that the work he put into it is paying off. It really has been a pleasure to watch him grow up in the sport.”
Tami added, “I’m just excited for him, to see all the hard work he has put into it.”
Lyle said throughout the summer, he would be playing tournaments with a travel team. Last school year he attended several college showcases, and plans to do the same this fall.
Though playing with so many different players so often is nerve-racking at first, Lyle said as the day goes on, the anxiety disappears.
“Everybody else is in the same position as you,” Lyle said. “It’s definitely something different but I like it.”
