Pitcher Stanton Long eager to play at Thomas University

Left-handed pitcher Stanton Long signed a scholarship Thursday to play baseball at Thomas University.

Long said he liked that there was on campus ministry and he liked the baseball coaches he would soon be working with.

“It feels good,” Long said.

Long’s father, Dargan, was also a Bearcat baseball player. He said he was proud of his son for continuing on to compete at the next level.

“I’m just proud he is going to be playing baseball,” Dargan said. “He’ll be close and we can go and watch him play. I think it’s a nice school.”

Thomas University J.V. coach Randy Adams said he was excited to have Long join the team and offer his talents as a lefty.

“Stanton is extremely athletic,” Adams said. “He is left handed, which is always nice. I need arms, I like left handed arms that are young, and we can develop them and really do something with them.

As a senior, Long started in four games on the mounds and pithed a total of 33.1 innings with two wins and a save. His season ERA was 2.1 and he had 48 strikeouts.
