Bearcat track star joins Golden Rams team

Bainbridge High School Bearcats most valuable track performer Cervantes Jackson signed a scholarship Wednesday with the Albany State University Rams.
Jackson turned in a medal-winning performance with a second place personal best triple jump of 4-feet-2-inches at the State Class AAAA Meet in Jefferson.
Jackson was also eleventh in the high jump clearing the bar at a height of 5-feet-2- inches, second in the 110-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 14.69, second in the long jump with a leap of 46-feet-3-inches and fifth in the with a leap of six feet at the Class AAAA Sectional Meet in Carrollton.
Looking on as Jackson signed in the Bainbridge High School gymnasium hospitality room were his family, his coaches, his friends and school officials.
Bearcats track coach Larry Cosby, who led the Bearcats to the 2010 State Class AAAA track championship, said he could not be prouder of Jackson, who he described as a dedicated performer who worked hard in practice and meets. Bearcats coach Doctor Larry Clark, who coached strong Bearcats track teams for many years, agreed and pointed out that he is looking forward to Jackson’s track career at Albany State.
Bainbridge High School principal Tommie Howell and athletic director Stan Killough both said they are always happy when student athletes like Jackson get the opportunity to continue their academic and athletic careers at the college level.
