May 29, 2015
Michael C. “M.C.” Hammer, age 58, of Bainbridge Ga., died at his home Friday morning, May 29, 2015, after an extended illness.
He was a native of Bainbridge, but spent his earlier years in Merritt Island, Fla. He graduated from Merritt Island High School in 1975. He returned to Bainbridge in 1989 where he worked construction before joining the City of Bainbridge where he worked for over 14 years prior to his death. He was a certified firefighter as well.
“He was a man of integrity, honesty, love and a true friend to all who knew him,” his family said. “He was always there to help others. Much of his early years were spent in the company of his best friend, Dave Bruner. He was a hard worker but when time permitted you would find him enjoying the outdoors either down at the creek with family fishing, canoeing, and hunting or getting together with friends and family grilling and sitting out by the fire. He loved music and would often join friends and family playing the guitar.”
He was survived by his wife of 17 years, Jamie; stepsons: Daniel K. Faircloth of Houston, Texas, James S. Faircloth of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Michael W. Faircloth of Naples, Fla.; step-grandchildren, Leila and Ethan Faircloth; mother and stepfather: Susan Rich Coppinger and Lowell Coppinger of Bainbridge; father, Andrew Hammer of Merritt Island, Fla.; one sister, Beth (Ray) Molina of Merritt Island, Fla.; two nieces, Lisa Molina and Emily Molina of Merritt Island, Fla.; four great-nephews, Kaden, Cameron, Kaleb and Justin, and one great-niece, Tristen, all of Merritt Island, Fla.
A celebration honoring his life will be held Saturday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at the Performing Arts Building, Earl May Boat Basin in Bainbridge.
