Follow the yellow brick road with BLT’s Class Act workshop children, ages 6-13 as they rehearse for the upcoming production of the ever-popular children’s story, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”
Under the direction of Heather Phillips, her assistant, Alaya Schuyler and stage manager Austin Rowe, the cast of 20 is working hard to bring the story to life on the Bainbridge Little Theatre stage.
Everyone is familiar with the story of Dorothy and her little dog, Toto, who are carried by a tornado from their Kansas home to the strange land of Oz.
She is advised that the Wizard who lives in the Emerald City can help her find her way back home, so she sets off to find the Wizard, meeting up with a variety of characters along her way.
The leading role of Dorothy is played by Brooke Phillips. Her traveling companions are: Cowardly Lion (Vivianna Schuyler), Scarecrow, (Kathryn Cohen) and Tin Man (Taryn Powell).
Lanie Gay takes on the role of Toto, Dorothy’s little dog, while the Wizard is played by Wyatt Carpenter.
The Wicked Witch of the West is Coby-James Harper, while Glinda, the Good is played by Dallis Thompson.
The cast is completed with winged monkeys, munchkins, Fighting Trees, guardians of the gates and more.
Director Phillips and her assistants, Schuyler and Rowe, are all “graduates” of the BLT Class Act summer workshops, having performed there when they were younger.
Heather Phillips, a rising junior at the University of Georgia where she is majoring in early childhood development, is directing her third summer production. Schuyler and Rowe, also college students, have a long history with BLT theatre.
The show opens on Friday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Saturday night performance and a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m.
