Services for Donnie Russell Ellis, 81, of Ochlocknee were held at 2 pm, Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church where he was a member and served as a deacon. Rev. Gene Brock and Rev. Michael Stewart officiated and interment followed in Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors presented by AML Post 265 Honor Guard. Active pallbearers were Ricky Guill, Rafe Guill, Rex Guill, and Robbins Guill, David Ellis Jr. and Scott Brady. Honorary pallbearers were Carlton Powell, Ronny Herring, Donnie Hicks, Wayne Rehberg, Warner Rehberg, Terry Singletary, Edgar Croft and Phillip Powell.

Mr. Ellis passed away May 21, 2015 at his residence. Born October 13, 1933 in Ochlocknee, he was the son of the late Thomas Britt Ellis and Ollie Rehberg Ellis. On June 28, 1954 he married Opal Davis, who survives. Mr. Ellis graduated from Ochlocknee Consolidated School in 1952 and served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. He was a member of the American Legion Post 265 in Ochlocknee; the American Legion post 265 Honor Guard; Masonic Lodge of Mobile Ala; and Ochlocknee Community Civic Club where he cooked “Old South Day Sausage” for many years. He was a battery salesman from 1961-1995. Survivors include his wife of almost 61 years, Opal Davis Ellis; son, Donald Russell Ellis and wife Gail; grandson, Adam Ellis and wife Ashley; great grandson, Eli Ellis; sister, Sherrill Ellis Humber (Brady); brothers, “Tommy” Thomas Britt Ellis, Jr (Betty), David Ellis (Gladys); sisters-in-law, Jackie Ellis, Joan Stewart and Judy Guill (Richard) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sarah Ellis Baggett, brother, John Ellis and brother-in-law, Sidney Baggett. Donations may be made to Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church, 7856 Ga Hwy 188, Ochlocknee Ga 31773.
