Bearcat soccer team looses to Mary Pearsons in hard-fought game

The Mary Persons High School Bulldogs soccer team downed the Bainbridge High School Bearcats 6-0 Wednesday in Forsyth, eliminating them in the first round of the State Class AAAA soccer playoffs.
The Bulldogs were led by three players: Josh Hampton, Dawson Daniel and Matthew Heller, who all scored two goals each. The Bearcats just missed scoring a goal with 10 minutes left in the first half. The Bearcats Jaycee Castoro took a downfield pass but a Bulldogs defender wrestled the ball away from him.
Bulldog Dawson Daniel scored two goals on outside shots by in the first 17 minutes of play and his team was in front 3-0 at halftime.
The Bulldogs scored a first half goal on an outside shot by Matthew Hellier. They added their final three goals in the second half.
Hellier opened the second half scoring with an early goal to increase the Bulldogs lead to 3-0. Josh Hampton scored one goal 15 minutes into the half and another with 15minutes left in the game. Hellier scored the final goal after taking a crossing pass.
Bearcats coach Chip Ariail said he thought his team his team hung in early against the Bulldogs.
“Mary Persons is an outstanding team,” he said. “We hustled, played hard and stayed with them early, but then things kind of got away from us.”
