Bearcats lose to TCC, take down Trojans with 9-0 win

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats soccer team shut out the Brooks County High School Trojans 9-0 Tuesday in Quitman to complete their regular season 11-6 overall and 7-3 in Region 1-AAAA play.

They will travel to Forsyth next Wednesday to take on Mary Persons High School in the first round of the State Class AAAA playoffs.

They jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Trojans in the first ten minutes on goals by junior midfielder Jaycee Castro. The first goal came in the third minute when senior midfielder Michael Bush crossed a pass to the center that was followed up by Castro from en yards out.

Castro’s second goal came on a breakaway in the ninth minute after he received a long pas s over the Trojans defense from midfielder Misael Rodriguez.

The third Bearcats goal was scored by junior midfielder Jesus Contreras who shot and scored from the top of the Trojans penalty area after receiving a pass from Castro. They increased their advantage to 4-0 when sophomore forward Leroy Rivera broke free broke free on a breakaway and scored on a shot from six yards out in the 19th minute.

Castro scored his third goal of the night in the 23rd minute to increase his advantage to 5-0. Rivera sent a through pass to him and he got loose on a break away and scored from the penalty area.

The Bearcats scored their final four goals in the last nine minutes of the first half. Rivera tallied two breakaway goals on assists by Rodriguez in the 31st and 36th minutes. Senior defender Alex Ward rounded out the scoring with goals in the 32nd and 39th minutes.
