The Bainbridge High School Bearcats improved their Region 1-AAAA record to 9-6 with an 18-0 three-inning victory over the Monroe High School Tornadoes Friday in Albany.
They scored nine runs in the first inning and nine more in the second. A three-run homer by Tyler Storey was the key blow in the first inning rally. Key blows in the big second inning rally included an RBI double by Dustin Strickland, an RBI single by Caleb Boutwell, an RBI single by third baseman Will Kelley, a two-run double by Russell Wheeler and an RBI single by shortstop Keith Lyle.
Cayden McQuaig recorded the win for the Bearcats. He was in command all the way, striking out four, allowing just one walk and scattering five hits.
Bearcats coach Brian McCorkle said he thought his team played a strong all around game against Monroe.
“We obviously hit the ball very well Friday, but we also fielded well and ran the bases well,” the Bearcats coach said.
The Bearcats will be in Americus today taking on the Americus-Sumter County High School Panthers in a 5:30 p.m. Region 1AAAA game. On Friday they will host the Albany High School Indians at 6 p.m. at the Bearcat Diamond.
The scheduled Region 1-AAAA Monday game between the Bearcats and the visiting Worth County High School Rams was rained out and rescheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Bearcat Diamond.
