Bainbridge track and field gears up for Patriots Relays in Albany

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats track teams will be competing Friday evening and night in the 12th annual Westover High School Patriots and Lady Patriots Relays at the Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track in Albany.
Competition will begin at 4 p.m. with the boys long jump and the boys shot put. Victor Bodison is coming off a strong second place finish of 20-feet-7-inches in the long jump at the Harmon’s Invitational Meet a Saturday, March 28 at Lowndes County High School In Valdosta.
At 4:30 p.m., the boys 300-meter low and intermediate hurdles will take place Isaiah Brown was fifth in the low hurdles with a time of 42.84 in Valdosta and Jaylyn Scott was seventh in the low hurdles in a time of 43.99.
At 4:50 p.m. competition will begin in the 3200-meter run. Bearcat Perry Waddell was seventh in the event in a time of 11:35.83.
The Bearcats and Lady Cats have been particularly strong in the hurdles this season. In Valdosta Bearcat Cervantes Jackson won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.12 and Is and Isaiah Brown was second was second in a time of 15.27. Lady cat Uriyah Davis was second in the 1600-meter run in a time of 6:17.24 and third in the 3200-meter run in a time of 13:26.51. Amaia Taylor has also been strong in the 300-meter hurdles.
Bearcats coach Larry Cosby and Lady Cats coach Tandria Phillips both said they are pleased with the progress their teams are making this season.
“We are very young this season,” Cosby said. “We graduated a number of strong senior performers following last season. Our times and distances are improving with every meet.”
Coach Phillips said her Lady Cats are also improving their times from meet to meet. “Our athletes have a great work ethic,” she said.
