The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer team edged the Cook County High School Lady Hornets 2-1 last Friday night in Adel.
The Lady Hornets took a quick 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game when they connected on a lofted shot from 18 yards away. Lady Cats freshman goalkeeper Morgan Cannon recorded a double-save just before the end of the half to preserve the lead.
The Lady Cats pulled even 1-1 when senior midfielder Jennifer Becerra intercepted a Lady Hornets throw dribbled toward the Lady Hornets goal and kicked the ball into the goal from 12 yards out in the 56th minute.
The Lady Cats, who are 3-5 overall and 2-1 in Region 1-AAAA, play Tuesday when they host the Albany High School Lady Indians at Centennial Field. On Friday they will travel to Americus for a 5:30 p.m. Region 1-AAAA game with the Americus-Sumter County High School Lady Panthers.
“Our Lady Cats played very well against Cook County,” coach Chip Ariail said. “They did a good job of getting the ball around the net and played solid defense. Everybody did their part. It was a true team victory.”
