Dr. Vicky Carol Persons, 62, of Meridian, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015, in Savannah. The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home in Cairo on Friday, March 13, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. To honor Vicky’s wishes, no formal funeral services are planned.
Dr. Persons was born on September 16, 1952, in Bainbridge, to the late William Edward Roland and Eloise Thompson Roland. She was married to Lewis O. Persons Jr., who survives. She received her PhD in Special Education from Florida State University and went on to become a devoted educator for 15 years. She was a member of the Darien Rotary Club, Cairo Rotary Club, and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators “PAGE.” She got joy out of helping others, loved gardening, caring for animals and cooking for her loved ones. Vicky was a wonderful wife, mother and friend to all that knew her.
Survivors include: husband, Lewis Persons Jr. of Meridian; daughter, Jennifer Piland Turnbull (Jarrett) of Boston, Georgia, Amy Piland Earley (Nicholas) of Pooler, Georgia; step-son, Matthew Persons of Canton, Ohio; step-daughters, Elizabeth Van Vliet (Danny) of Tallahassee, Fla., Angela Den Bleyker (Chuck) of Crawfordville, Fla.; grandchildren, Gretchen Turnbull, Malorie Turnbull, Avery Turnbull, all of Boston, Ga., Abigail Earley of Pooler, Lily Den Bleyker of Crawfordville, Zoey Persons, Olivia Persons, Ava Persons, Aidan Persons, Jacob Persons, Noah Persons, all of Canton, Ohio; brother, Archie Roland (Ann) of Deer Park, Texas; sisters, Betty Jo Roland of Orlando, Fla., Linda Roland (Mark) of Auburndale, Fla.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lewis Persons Sr. and Angie Persons of Tallahassee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Edward and Eloise Roland.
