Bainbridge golf team hosts first tournament of season

The Pierce County High School Bears, the Valdosta High School Wildcats and the Lee County High School Trojans captured the top three spots in Saturday’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats Invitational Golf Tournament at Bainbridge Country Club.
Fourteen teams competed in the event.
The Bears, who shot 321, were led by Jake Harvard with a round of 78, Jamison O’Steen with a round of 79, Zac Thornton with a round of 81 and Derek Blocker with a round of 83.
The Wildcats, who shot 324, were led by Lukas Alakuppi, who was low medalist for the day with a round of 70, Branden Colbert with a round of 80, Davis Mathis with a round of 85 and Clark Wilson with a round of 89.
The Trojans, who shot 331, were led by Jason Lee with a 73, Chase McLain with a 79, Josh Pollock with an 80 and Nick Neff with a 92.
The Bearcats shot 379. Jones Gossett shot a round of 97, Brendan Greene shot a round of 98, Bryce Howell shot a round of 92 and Christian Novak shot a round of 92.
Tom Wheeler, Bainbridge High School Bearcats golf coach and tournament host, said he was very pleased with the play and competitiveness of the tournament field.
“I look forward to this tournament every year,” coach Wheeler said. We always have a lot of strong teams and it is always very competitive. I really appreciate so many coaches bringing their teams here.”
