Bainbridge Public Safety Chief Eric Miller resigned as director of BPS Friday effective immediately.

“Eric made the decision based on personal reasons and decided he needed to step away,” said Bainbridge City Manager Chris Hobby. “We’re sorry to see him go, but we understand the decision and wish him the best in the future.”

According to a statement from the city, former BPS Major Jerry Carter will serve as interim director effective Monday, March 9.

Hobby said that Carter agreed to serve as interim until the end of the current fiscal year, which is Sept. 30.

“We’ve had to move pretty quickly,” Hobby said. “Jerry will be here Monday ready to work. We’ll have plenty of time for a search for a permanent director that we’ll likely begin this summer.”

The statement from the city said, “The City of Bainbridge holds Miller in the highest regard and wishes him every possible future success.”
