Southern Company and Tradewind Energy, Inc.’s Decatur County Solar Project will bring about 100 construction jobs to the Bainbridge area.
John Ricker, the job superintendent with Moss Construction Management, said that he is already looking over applications and beginning to fill positions for the projects, which should begin construction around mid-March. Construction is expected to last until October of this year.
The group is looking to fill temporary, full-time positions at several capacities and will need help assembling the racks the solar panels sit on and installing the approximately one million solar panels, as well electrician and operation help.
While some positions will be filled by in-house workers, Ricker said that the majority of the construction workers are expected to be be local hires.
The 168-acre site is located off state highway 27 near the Decatur County Industrial Park. The power produced by the Decatur County Solar Project will be sold to Georgia Power Company, a subsidiary of the Atlanta-based Southern Company.
The project is expected to begin operating by the end of 2015 and will produce 19 megawatts of solar energy.
