The Grace Christian Academy Cougars basketball team defeated Memorial Day School of Savannah 66-56 Thursday in Macon to advance to the “Elite 8” round of the Georgia Independent Schools Association State Class AA Tournament.
Noah Thomas and Jack McRae, who combined for 44 points, led the Cougars. Thomas had 22 points and McRae had 20 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals and a blocked shot. Sam McRae, who was also in double figures with 12 points, had two steals.
Cougars coach Doctor Mallory McRae said he was proud of the way his team stood up to a bigger Memorial Day School team.
“Memorial Day School was really not any taller than we were but they had several players with a big weight advantage on us,” McRae said. “We got our positions and did not let them push us out. We were not intimidated at all and I could not be any prouder of our players great hustle and their overall strong performance.”
“When you get to the state tournament everybody is good and you have to be ready every night.”
The Cougars will return to action Saturday against a yet to be determined opponent.
